Farmers’ associations in Saxony-Anhalt have sharply criticized the German Farmers’ Association’s possible willingness to compromise on agricultural diesel. Martin Dippe, President of the Farmers’ Association of Saxony-Anhalt, said they did not take to the streets for months only to meekly backtrack. The three associations Farmers’ Association, Land Creates Connection (LSV) and Free Farmers therefore stuck to the demand that the abolition of agricultural diesel be completely withdrawn, it said in a joint statement. Shortly before the agriculture ministers’ conference in Erfurt next week, the credibility of the entire protests should not be questioned.
The German Farmers’ Association, in which around 90 percent of farmers in Germany are organized, had signaled a willingness to reach agreement in the dispute over tax exemption for agricultural diesel. People are willing to compromise if, in return, there is real relief elsewhere.
