According to police, a video of a student allegedly sexually abusing his younger sister was distributed in the class chat at a school in North Rhine-Westphalia. The suspect boy made the recording himself, the police in Essen said on Thursday without providing any further details. After receiving the video, classmates turned to parents and older siblings, who called the police.

The incident occurred at a school under the jurisdiction of the police in Essen; the officers did not provide any further information about the facility or the age of those involved. The investigation is being carried out by a special investigative group of the Essen police, which takes action against child pornography and sexual violence against children.

Parents and siblings “reacted in an exemplary manner” and contacted the police “immediately” after receiving information, the investigators explained. At the same time, they pointed out that even receiving depictions of abuse sent in chat groups is punishable under German law.
