The Russian capital Moscow has again become the target of an enemy drone attack in its skyscraper district Moskva City. Several drones were shot down by anti-aircraft defenses while trying to fly to Moscow on Tuesday night, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said in his blog on the Telegram news service.
A drone hit the same high-rise building that had been the target of an attack on Sunday. There was damage on the 21st floor of the tower, the facade glazing had been destroyed over 150 square meters, and there was no information on the injured, Sobyanin said.
The Russian Defense Ministry spoke of a “terrorist attack by the Kiev regime”. Two drones were shot down by anti-aircraft guns in the Moscow area. A drone was rendered harmless by the radio-electronic defense, lost control and crashed in Moskva City. This contradicted the information previously provided by Mayor Sobyanin, which suggested a targeted hit.
“Painful” attacks
In Ukraine, expert Ivan Stupak, who worked for the SBU secret service for many years, said the Russian defense system could not repel such attacks. “The attacks against Moskva City are considered incredibly painful for the Kremlin because it shows the inability to protect the heart of the capital,” he said on state television. The objects flew unnoticed, would have hit very specific targets, windows, said Stupak. On Sunday, an office of the Ministry of Digitization was affected. That went flawlessly – straight into the “weak point” of Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin’s system, he said.
According to the Russian state agency Tass, there were also temporarily no take-offs and landings at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport due to the dangerous situation. Flights were diverted. Kiev has not officially admitted involvement in drone attacks.
The metropolis of millions has already been the target of drone attacks on several occasions, which, however, bear no relation to the mass attacks by Russia in its war of aggression against Ukraine. Moscow repeatedly fired drones, rockets and cruise missiles at the capital Kiev. There were dead, injured and massive damage in Kiev. Russia has been waging a destructive war of aggression against Ukraine for more than 17 months.
