On the 50th birthday of Crown Princess Mette-Marit on August 19, the Norwegian Palace congratulated Instagram and published five pictures.
The royal family wished on its official Instagram account: “Happy birthday, Crown Princess Mette-Marit!” There was also a balloon emoji.
There is also a new portrait among the five pictures posted. The Crown Princess stands smiling in the green and wears a white and blue striped outfit with long sleeves. Like her husband Haakon (50), she is a nature lover.
Another picture shows Mette-Marit sitting on the floor surrounded by books. This pays homage to the fact that she has been one of the most important ambassadors of Norwegian literature at home and abroad for years.
The palace has also published three private snapshots: exchanging wedding rings with Haakon, as a young mother with her three small children, and a black and white photo from her childhood. Then she beams mischievously at the camera in dungarees.
A month before Mette-Marit, her husband turned 50. The current posting reminded once again that both will celebrate their round day of honor together: “On Friday next week they will gather guests from all over the country for a backyard party at the castle. The day coincides with the wedding anniversary of the crown prince couple.”
22 years ago, Haakon and Mette-Marit said yes despite much resistance. Many Norwegians initially disagreed with the choice of heir to the throne, as his bride had an illegitimate child and had a history of drugs and partying. But Haakon is said to have fallen in love at first sight at a music festival in 1999.
After only six months, the two became engaged and the future king prevailed against all critics. The couple had daughter Ingrid Alexandra (19) and son Sverre Magnus (17). With her personable manner and discipline, Mette-Marit has long since won over all skeptics.
