In a bar in the US state of California, a gunman shot dead at least three people and injured several others on Wednesday. Orange County police confirmed the deaths of four people at the scene, including the shooter, on the online service X, formerly Twitter.

Six people were taken to the hospital, five of them with gunshot wounds, it said. A police officer was also involved in the incident, but no officers were injured.

The incident happened at the Cook’s Corner bar about 70 kilometers south of Los Angeles. The incident was preceded by a domestic dispute, according to The Orange County Register newspaper. Accordingly, the shooter was a former retired police officer. The bar is a well-known meeting point for motorcyclists from the region.

The United States has more guns than people: one in three adults owns at least one gun and nearly one in two adults lives in a household where there is a gun.
