Avathon, a leading industrial AI startup, has announced plans to expand its operations in India, aiming to make the country its primary research and development hub in the next two years. The company, previously known as SparkCognition, is supported by prominent investors such as Temasek Holdings, Verizon Ventures, and Boeing.

In an interview with The Economic Times, CEO Pervinder Johar revealed that Avathon intends to increase its workforce in India from 140 to 400 employees over the next 24 months. Founded in 2013, the company’s core mission is to incorporate AI into existing infrastructure, revolutionizing traditional systems into autonomous industrial solutions. Avathon caters to various industries including aerospace, defense, and oil and gas, with clients such as Nvidia and Qualcomm.

Headquartered in California, Avathon made its entry into the Indian market in 2022 through the acquisition of Integration Wizards, a visual AI company. Johar, who took over as CEO earlier this year, succeeded founder and former CEO Amir Hussain, who now serves on the board of directors.

With facilities in Austin, Texas, and Bengaluru, India, Avathon plans to establish these locations as centers of excellence for AI development across all product areas. Johar emphasized the importance of India in the company’s growth strategy, highlighting AI’s projected significant contribution to the Asia-Pacific region’s industrial growth by 2028.

Avathon’s AI technology is already being utilized by major oil and gas companies in India for safety monitoring, covering a vast network of retail outlets, terminals, and airport fueling stations. The company’s rebranding signifies a crucial milestone in its journey towards becoming a global leader in applied AI, addressing critical industry challenges worldwide.
