A Future for Every Child (AFEC), a nonprofit based in the Bay Area, recently celebrated its 5th anniversary on September 15th. The event, known as the ‘Joyful Jubilee,’ shed light on the organization’s impactful work with vulnerable youth in India. These young individuals are often forced to leave care homes or orphanages once they reach the age of 18.
AFEC’s primary goal is to empower these youths who lack support systems as they transition into adulthood. Over the course of five years, the program has assisted more than 1400 youths, with 600 of them securing stable employment. The cost to support one youth through the program is $1,000, which covers various aspects such as mentoring, life skills training, emotional wellness programs, and full scholarships for education.
During the gala event, which was attended by over 200 supporters, donors, and community members, AFEC beneficiaries like Aman and Meherunissa shared their success stories. Aman, who was born deaf and mute and abandoned by his parents at a young age, was able to leave his orphanage with AFEC’s assistance and is now working as a chef at a 4-star hotel in Jabalpur. Meherunissa, who lost her parents as a child, currently works for a construction company in Mumbai while also supporting her younger sister.
Founder Gita Gopal and Executive Director Anusuya Rao expressed their gratitude to the audience for their unwavering support. The gala evening featured a silent auction, a cocktail hour, and a performance by Tamas, an Indian fusion rock band.
AFEC’s mission is crucial in providing a brighter future for these vulnerable youth in India. The organization’s holistic approach to support goes beyond just financial assistance, aiming to equip these young individuals with the necessary skills and resources to thrive in adulthood.
