There is a saying: “The flowers make the garden, not the fence.” That’s why millions of hobby gardeners have been heaving plastic sacks full of flower and planting soil into their trunks in these weeks so that the plants on the local soil prosper. They spend almost two billion euros a year on this, including fertilizers and plant protection. This is also a German saying: “Every gardener grows with his plants.”
However, what recreational florists tend to ignore is that “naturally organic” is by no means everything they pour onto beds and plant pots. Experts point out that the climate impacts of factory-packed soil can be significant.
