DOMRADIO.DE: First of all, there were the restrictions, which were in connection with the Corona Virus, in everyday life there are enough problems, and also at the output of the panels. Some dispensaries had to close, because of the necessary spacing could be observed, for example. In the meantime, the boards are, however, confronted with a very different concern, is it?

Jochen Brühl (Chairman of the Board, Germany): Yes, we are seeing a trend that just due to the pandemic, the group of people the people that seek help, changed. There are many young people, but also artists, or artists, students, self-employed, people who have lost their job.

There are people who do not realize at once that the money is not enough. It’s not enough time to buy food or groceries. Do not come to the table, while the older, dare is often to come back to the table, because you might have no money for toiletries or fear of Contracting the disease themselves.

DOMRADIO.DE: The inhibition threshold to go to the Board and to ask for help, there is probably quite large. What backgrounds people come to you?

Brühl: in fact, the first contact is rather a shame that people feel really bad. But the more than 60,000 employees, the helpers, which I would like to say a big thank you for what you have done in these times, take a often, this negative feeling very quickly.

The people who come to us are a mirror of society. These are families with many children, Single parents, pensioners, there are people who are now on short-time working. These are people who are just on the edge of society, people with a migration background. These groups make to the public: There are people on the margins of society, and we must not forget that.

DOMRADIO.DE: In an open letter to the Federal Minister for social Affairs, Hubertus Heil, you have already in March, more support for poverty-affected people is required. What happened since then?

Brühl: There are many things which the Federal government attached. And yet, it is so that we have the impression that it is the people affected by poverty, to be forgotten in this crisis: children in Homeschooling, which really needed a Tablet. In the case of pensioners, it is not like that anyway, that a lot of arrives by the aid, as agreed. I believe that we need to readjust, you have to look carefully.

We must keep in view that the that have already little and the Lobby don’t have got to this point, even more behind. We have said to the Federal government, the boards make that information public.

There must be experts that deal with this topic, and then say that you need the people who are in retirement, but also young people, self-employed people who are in short-time work, lose their Job now, to take care of. Because you have to readjust at the end also, so these people will not get left behind even further.

DOMRADIO.DE: is the aid from The Federal government are not sufficient yet?

Brühl : no, not enough, or come too late. Of course, you can also save not any industry. But I, personally, think it is about people. We need to have the people in mind who already have too little. And there is no good words, but they do help.

Since we are ready to put us to the table. But since it is not what must happen, that these people, who are affected by poverty, slipping at this point, the pandemic even further.

DOMRADIO.DE: you are making currently to the difficult Situation for older people, the reasons, perhaps just because of the Coronavirus will not out of the house to trust, or to the output of the panel prefer for security in a large arc. How can these people be helped?

Brühl: We will try the delivery services. We try this, we also pack packages for people to get the food. But just for the older people this is even worse, it is even more striking, because the chalkboard is also a place of encounter, where you meet people, where you can come with talking to people.

we’ll get back again and again reported that these people are, of course, worried. You don’t get to the food, as we try to compensate for it with the delivery service. But a big Problem is the theme of loneliness, Isolation. To create the power of many older people.

There are also a lot of helpers, which belong to the risk groups. In Germany we have 120 panels are closed. Also, this is a very difficult story to can not help and to not meet with the other volunteers. I have to say again clearly: For older people who are affected by poverty, it is not only the food, but also the contact to the other.
