The national audiovisual Institute (INA) has cast a stark light on the place of Africa in six major French channels, including three public (France 2, France 3 and Arte) and three private (TF1, Canal+ and M6). The study carried out by the INA was published this Sunday.

Africa less in terms of quantity of information

At first, there was the InaStat, barometer statistics from the national audiovisual Institute. He peeled the news from 2011 to 2019. It reveals that the media coverage of the african continent accounts for 5.4 % of the global offer of information of TF1, France 2, France 3, Canal+, Arte and M6. This is less than Asia (12 %), but higher than Latin America (2 %). If all the countries of Africa are mentioned at least once (except Sao Tome and Principe), more than half of the citations are concentrated on just 5 countries : Egypt, Libya, Mali, Tunisia and Algeria. At the level of the subjects, those which are put forward are mainly related to conflicts and other issues sounding negative.
