The first storm surge of the season is causing flooding on the Schleswig-Holstein Baltic Sea coast. A severe weather warning from the German Weather Service is in effect. “I also appeal to all people living on the Baltic Sea coast to be well informed and to take appropriate precautionary measures,” warned Environment Minister Tobias Goldschmidt. The Danish police even asked residents and holidaymakers in the south and east of the country to leave the coastal area. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, however, the force of nature is likely to be milder.
