Coach Edin Terzic sees Borussia Dortmund on the right track despite the continued lack of finesse.
“You can speak of a constant development. We got 66 points from 27 games – you have to see in Europe whether another team has managed that,” said the Dortmund coach after the 1-0 (0-0) -Working victory over Werder Bremen with reference to BVB’s impressive haul from 16 Bundesliga games across the seasons without defeat.
Terzic saw the jump to first place in the table, at least for one night, as confirmation: “We tried to draw our conclusions in the summer. Less sexy, more success. We have shown beautiful and sexy football long enough in the last ten years But in the end it didn’t lead to achieving our maximum goals.”
Terzic thinks highly of Brandt
There was extra praise from the coach for match winner Julian Brandt. The much-noticed and expensive return of the four BVB national players Brandt, Mats Hummels, Niclas Füllkrug and Niklas Süle from the two international matches in the USA in a business jet specially chartered by the club paid off.
With his goal in the 67th minute, Brandt prevented Borussia from being punished for exploiting their chances. “He’s making himself more important to us week after week. Not just on the pitch, but also in the dressing room. His voice is becoming more and more important. We think highly of him in the future. He’s welcome to continue like this,” enthused Terzic.
The fact that Brandt played his 300th Bundesliga game at the age of just 27 earned the coach further respect: “He’s a child of the Bundesliga. To have played so many games at that age is something extraordinary.”
