According to a new survey, 27 percent of people in Germany could imagine voting for a new party led by left-wing politician Sahra Wagenknecht. This was the result of a representative survey by the opinion research institute Insa for “Bild am Sonntag”. 55 percent of those surveyed said they did not want to vote for such a party, 18 percent did not provide any information.
At the end of September, a YouGov survey had already shown that almost one in three people (29 percent) in the east of the country could basically imagine electing a new party led by Wagenknecht. In the West it was 19 percent.
Election surveys are generally always subject to uncertainty. It is also not yet completely clear what the party should stand for. Wagenknecht has positioned herself as a sharp critic of the federal government’s Ukraine policy and the energy sanctions against Russia. She is in favor of importing cheap natural gas and against overly strict climate protection policies. She also advocates limiting migration. She has repeatedly described the Greens as the most dangerous party.
The politician wants to present the “Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance” with several colleagues at the federal press conference on Monday. First, a club with this name should be officially presented. It is seen as the first step towards founding your own party. Wagenknecht was one of the most prominent figures on the left for decades. However, on important points such as migration and climate policy, she has fallen out with the party leadership. A party expulsion process is underway against her.
