MANCHESTER (ENGLAND) — Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United manager, is trying to get his players to learn from Tyson Fury, the heavyweight boxing champion, as they attempt to overcome their latest defeat in the Premier League.
After United’s 5-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford, Solskjaer is trying to keep his job.
Solskjaer stated that it wasn’t his first crisis as United manager. He is now ready to “fight back”, starting Saturday’s match against Tottenham.
Solskjaer claimed that his team was “punch drunk” against Liverpool. The Liverpool team won in the fifth minute, and led 4-0 at the half-time.
Solskjaer stated that “We conceded the goal and we wanted it to be sorted out” and added, “We went a bit too open and too frantic against an excellent team.” Tyson Fury is a good example of this when he’s knocked down. It’s amazing how composed and calm he is after he falls down a few times. He then gets up and is ready to go again. It’s possible to have better minds.
Despite widespread criticisms of United’s performance, Solskjaer stated that it felt like the squad was “inthe trenches” this week.
He said, “We need to react.” It’s my responsibility to get the players in the right mindset. The reaction, the result and the performance are all my responsibility. We’ve also worked together on the pitch to make sure we have everything in order.
“That’s more than just one thing, it’s a whole mindset. It’s strategy, tactics, and technically. It’s been a great week, and I feel that the boys are ready for their best.
Harry Maguire, United captain, said that he had been through one the most difficult times in his career and that the team owes its manager under pressure a performance against Tottenham.
Maguire stated that every player in the dressing-room should look at themselves and take full responsibility for their actions. Maguire spoke to Sky Sports in an interview. When you’re experiencing a result such as this or a period like it, you need to look at yourself first.
“We let the manager down against Liverpool. We let the club, the fans, and us as players down. We have to accept huge responsibility.”
