The president of the Diputación de Alicante, Carlos Mazón, has accused the Government of Pedro Sánchez of “wanting to bury” the province of Alicante with its water policy, while he has advanced that all the necessary actions will be taken from the provincial institution, including the legal ones, “if the intention of the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation to close the Vinalopó aquifers is confirmed.”
“If this closure is confirmed, we will take it as a new declaration of belligerence against the province of Alicante and, therefore, our response will be proportional”, indicated Mazón, who added, in this sense, that in the face of this new grievance “we will use all the strategies within our reach, not only the legal ones, but also the protest in the street and at all levels».
The Alicante leader has once again denounced that the declaration of overexploitation of six aquifers in the Alto Vinalopó “lacks technical criteria and is based on data from twenty years ago and poorly taken samples” and has recalled, in this regard, that “from the province We have already technically demonstrated to the Government of Spain that there are masses of underground water that are not overexploited and they do not want to answer us».
Mazón has insisted on denouncing “the policy of madness” that the central Executive is developing in terms of water with respect to the province of Alicante. «The Government of Spain as a whole, including the Hydrographic Confederations, are, on the one hand, strangling the Tajo-Segura and, on the other, wanting to plug, without any technical criteria, the Vinalopó aquifers just now that we had reached an agreement so that Something will come from the transfer of the Júcar Vinalopó”, pointed out the president, who wondered “what sin have we committed on this land so that the Government wants to bury us with the Segura and the Vinalopó”.
For all these reasons, he added that “the water war is being launched by whoever destroys the consensus and agreements without any technical criteria and that is Pedro Sánchez and his government”, while defending that his position and that of the province as a whole “is to act in the key of legitimate defense” and that this situation can only be faced “with a Generalitat with the capacity to influence the Government of Spain, something that we have not seen to date.”
