The average price of electricity in the wholesale market will drop 4% this Wednesday compared to this Tuesday, falling below the level of 190 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) for the first time so far in June.
Specifically, the average price of electricity will be 185.45 euros/MWh this Wednesday, some 7.87 euros cheaper than the price of this Tuesday (193.32 euros), according to data published by the Operator of the Iberian Energy Market (OMIE) and collected by Europa Press.
Thus, the maximum price of electricity on June 8 will be registered between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., with €0.33212/kWh, while the minimum for the day, of €0.21245/kWh, will occur between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m.
Compared to a year ago, the average price of electricity for this Wednesday will be 125.25% more expensive than the 82.33 euros/MWh of June 8, 2021.
The prices of the ‘pool’ have a direct impact on the regulated rate –the so-called PVPC–, to which almost 11 million households in the country are covered, and serve as a reference for the other 17 million who have contracted their supply in the free market.
In fact, the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) has verified that in 2021, in the framework of the upward spiral of energy, around 1.25 million people switched from the PVPC to a rate in the free market at a fixed price.
Last May, the electricity bill of an average user reached 120.68 euros, 46.9% above the 82.13 euros of the same month last year, according to data from Facua-Consumidores en Acción on the evolution of the regulated rate (PVPC), which places the receipt for the last month as the sixth highest in history.
