The president of the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, yesterday pledged the support of the regional government to the beet sector against “those who try to demonize and attack it”, given that it is a “strategic” business model for the Community because “full of life, creates employment and fixes population in rural areas”.
Mañueco began his speech, in statements collected by Ical, considering it “an honor and a pride” to participate in the ACOR 60th anniversary celebration gala, given that it brings back “personal memories”. He congratulated the “great family” of the cooperative, “one of the most important in Spain” for being “pioneer, revolutionary and exemplary in the sector”.
And it is that the sugar industry is a “strategic” sector that the Government of Castilla y León defends against “those who try to demonize and attack it.”
“We are at your side and we are proud to have 85 percent of the milling in all of Spain and to lead the production of sugar,” said the Chairman of the Board.
“I wish you many more years of prosperity”, concluded the Chairman of the Board, who wanted to extend the congratulations to ACOR to “agricultural cooperatives in general”, for being “essential to fill life, create employment and establish population in the rural environment”.
The celebration gala for the sixth decade of ACOR’s existence, which included the participation of the humorist Alex Clavero and which took place at the Miguel Delibes Cultural Center in Valladolid, began with a video in which veteran members claimed the importance that for their lives the cooperative had and has and they told several of the stories of their professional and vital trajectories related to the cultivation of beet and the role that ACOR had in the growth, defense and importance of this crop in Castilla y León.
After that, the brass quintet of the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra performed, and the president of ACOR, Jesús Posadas, intervened, who after recalling that the cooperative has more than 4,500 members and 500 workers, recalled the history of ACOR recalling that «the need and injustice of the sugar industry made a group of men create a cooperative under values and ideals that are still alive today».
