The second women’s World Cup downhill run on the Matterhorn was canceled due to strong gusts of wind. After several delays, the organizers and the World Ski Federation FIS had to cancel the Zermatt-Cervinia race.
The same weather fate had befallen the female racing drivers on Saturday and their male colleagues a week earlier. The spectacularly planned glacier event with start in Switzerland and finish in Italy was completely canceled for the second year and caused a PR embarrassment to Fis – which absolutely wanted to hold the races on the world-famous Matterhorn in the rather changeable autumn.
