It was no longer a surprise that Brazil’s most famous football star Neymar and Brazil’s most famous right-wing extremist Bolsonaro would start this one-two so close to the election.

On Wednesday, President Jair Bolsonaro visited the Instituto Neymar, a kind of foundation and football school run by the national player, and enthused that it was “a flagship for the whole of Brazil” and that Neymar was “a source of pride for all of us”. On Wednesday evening, Neymar then thanked the social media with many warm words about the “illustrious” guests. “I am very happy that you are all there.”
