“Histafit basically came about out of our own needs: We had to eat a low-histamine diet for a certain period of time for personal reasons. The change in diet was quite exhausting and time-consuming. When we got to know each other, it quickly became clear: We have to change that! That’s why we did “We developed our Histafit. We want to offer tasty convenience products that are suitable for a low-histamine diet,” says Melina Neumann, co-founder of Histafit (the name has meanwhile changed to Histafood), explaining the background to her start-up. Together with Ana Hansel, she has set herself the goal of making her low-histamine products just as easily accessible to people with intolerances as gluten-free or lactose-free diets. We tried a few foods.

A note in advance: Our tester does not suffer from any histamine intolerance, so only the taste was evaluated – and not the effect on digestion.

The start-up Histafit currently has seven low-histamine products (in organic quality) in its range, all of which are vegan, lactose-free and gluten-free: a herbal salt, a grain bread mix, a vegetable sauce, a vegetable broth, a grain muesli, a Spread and a grain bar. You get the complete package, but you can also buy individual products – or, as in our case, test a 3-piece trial set. This includes:

*from controlled organic cultivation.

In fact, the taste of “Gemüse Streich” takes some getting used to, although our tester loves carrots and beetroot – but not on bread. Because although the vegetables taste very natural (and also extremely healthy), they lack a certain sophistication. In addition, the consistency is more reminiscent of a vegetable mash or puree, but less of a spread. In the end it’s a question of (personal) taste.

Our tester found the grain muesli very tasty. Dissolved in milk, the grains get a smooth consistency and harmonize with the somewhat more al dente pieces of dates and pumpkin seeds. She found the addition of cinnamon a little unusual, as the ingredient gave the muesli mixture a very Christmassy touch. The tester liked it anyway, but surely not everyone will prefer this combination.

Finally, the grain bar from Histafit was tried. Here, too, one spice dominates: cardamom. Thus, the tester again came to the conclusion that you have to like the taste reminiscent of Christmas, because it is already special. In terms of color and consistency, the fruit bar performed quite positively. It’s delicious in any case, even if the spicy note might not be to everyone’s taste.

Do the low-histamine foods by Melina Neumann and Ana Hansel also pass the taste test in “The Lion’s Den”? The two founders are hoping for financial support for their start-up of 160,000 euros. They are prepared to give up 15 percent of their shares in the company. Will a:e juror:in strike? You can see the decision tonight as usual at 8:15 p.m. on Vox.
