The winners of this year’s International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film (doc) have been announced. One day before the end of the festival, 24 prizes, which were awarded by a jury and financed by various partners, were presented in the Leipzig Schaubühne Lindenfels on Saturday. Filmmakers from 74 films competed against each other in various competitions. The Dok Festival is considered one of the largest in Europe.

The Colombian Theo Montoya, for example, won the 10,000 euro Golden Dove in the International Long Documentary and Animated Film Competition for the production of “Anhell69”. The film portrays a young, queer generation in Colombia, which is characterized by violence and repression, and uses the power of adaptability and the crossing of borders, according to the jury’s statement. The prize was donated by Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk for the tenth time this year.

The film “Will You Look at Me” by the Chinese filmmaker Shuli Huang, which won the award for best documentary, also deals with the reality of queer people. Faustine Cros was also honored with the silver dove for the best film as a young director in the International Feature Film Competition for “A Life Like Any Other”.

For the first time this year, the organizers, together with the Saxon State Institute for Private Broadcasting and New Media, also awarded a silver dove to a young director for the best documentary or animated film in the International Short Film Competition. The prize, worth 1,500 euros, went to Sujin Moon for the production “Persona”, which deals with ideals of beauty and constraints.

255 films from 55 countries were shown at various locations in Leipzig at the Doc Film Festival.
