Boris Palmer is clearly ahead in the Tübingen mayoral election after the first counted votes. After counting the first 16 of a total of 74 polling stations, he achieved an absolute majority on Sunday evening. Most recently it was 53.8 percent of the votes – that’s a provisional figure.

Palmer has been mayor of Tübingen for 16 years and ran as an independent candidate. His membership in the Greens will be suspended until the end of 2023 due to disputes about taboo breaches and allegations of racism. His biggest competitors in the election are Ulrike Baumgärtner (Greens) and Sofie Geisel (SPD, supported by the FDP).
