NRW Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst welcomes the joint application from Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands for the 2027 Women’s World Cup: The initiative is a “strong European signal,” said Wüst at the Benelux summit on Wednesday in Rotterdam.
According to the State Chancellery, Wüst met the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, the Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and the Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden at several working meetings and a joint dinner there. Wüst said at the summit: “North Rhine-Westphalia and the Benelux countries are united not only by their direct neighborhood – but also by friendship and a proven partnership.”
The cooperation between the four countries is “an anchor of stability in Europe and an important driving force in the European Union.” Wüst added: “It must remain that way even after the elections that have now taken place in the Netherlands and Luxembourg and after the elections that will take place in Belgium next year.”
According to the State Chancellery, Wüst also spoke about a “topic of the heart that affects many millions of people” – the European Championship next year in Germany. “Good preparation and planning, including with regard to security issues, is necessary here,” says Wüst. He reminds us that the “International Police Cooperation Center” (IPCC) is being set up in Neuss, where all aspects of security will come together.
