The Hessian authorities are checking whether there is also a Chinese government office in Frankfurt that is used as a police station. “The Hessian authorities are checking whether such a service office or a Chinese police station even exists in Frankfurt,” said a spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior in Wiesbaden on Saturday. The State Criminal Police Office and the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution are involved in this examination. The “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” (FAZ) had previously reported on it.

The spokesman could not say whether there was concrete evidence of a “service office” that also served as a police station: “It is being checked, and it is also being checked in detail. It’s the turn of the security authorities.”

Dutch media reported on Wednesday that China had set up illegal police offices in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. There are similar police offices in several other countries. Chinese people could renew their driver’s licenses in these offices, but the offices should also facilitate overseas Chinese policing and collect information. “Of course we took note of that, logically,” said the spokesman for the Hessian Ministry of the Interior.

The non-governmental organization “Safeguard Defenders”, which deals primarily with human rights violations in China, published a map of numerous Chinese police stations abroad, including one in Frankfurt.
