Two men were fatally injured in a train accident in Wiesbaden. A regional train had caught the two on Friday evening between Mainz-Kastel and Wiesbaden-Biebrich on the tracks. The victims are a 40-year-old from Wiesbaden and a 31-year-old man without a home, as the police announced on Saturday night. According to the current investigation, the two men wanted to cross the railway tracks and overlooked the approaching train. Even emergency braking could no longer prevent the deadly collision. The passengers of the regional train 75 remained unharmed.
According to a police spokesman, there is a footpath near the scene of the accident, which is often used to cross the tracks. There had already been a fatal accident there in the past.
The railway line between Mainz-Kastel and Wiesbaden-Ost station was closed for a good three hours after the accident in the early evening. The “Hessenschau” had previously reported on the accident.
